Last month I had the pleasure of testing and reviewing the Sony KDL43WE753BU, Sony’s best full HD television featuring their powerful X-Reality 1 processor and HDR.
Straight away I could imagine what a superb bedroom TV this would make, especially for the gamers amongst us who demand fast refresh rates and accurate colours. Equally, the sleek design and thin frame make this a modern-looking set, ideally suited to a lounge or snug, great free-standing as well as when wall-mounted.
As soon as I was greeted by BBC1 HD I was in awe of the rich colours: vivid reds, vibrant greens and brilliant blues, all of which are notoriously difficult colours for televisions to reproduce. Sony’s Triluminous technology gives this TV incredibly accurate colour reproduction, especially noticeable with natural skin tones. Furthermore, with ‘HDR’ (High Dynamic Range) turned on, the WE753BU produces a greater range of luminosity. The HDR brings out more detail in the darker areas of a picture and overall a brighter more vivid display – perfect for those David Attenborough fans looking to see the patterns on a cheetah’s coat! It really is incredible that Sony are giving users the benefit of High Dynamic Range across their full range of 2017 models which makes the WE753BU the only full High Definition TV (1080p) featuring the powerful technology normally reserved for Ultra High Definition models (2160p).
If your favourite TV show is on when you’re going to be out or don’t want to miss the rest of the movie you’re watching, just add a USB stick to this TV and you’ll benefit from recording and playback. This single tuner TV means thanks to the attached external hard drive, you can watch your favourite programmes that are already recorded and saved on to the hard drive whilst you record a programme. The “brain” inside the recording unit takes over, offering you some features that more premium and designated stand-alone recorders offer, such as recording the individual programme or the whole series when playing back. Additionally, with a connected hard drive, you can pause live TV when you need to pop to the bathroom or make a cup of tea then, when you come back, you can even fast forward through the programme advertisements.
The KDL43WE753BU benefits from being a ‘SMART’ set which although isn’t equipped with Sony’s Android platform which features on Sony’s ‘4K’ models still gives users access to popular apps including Netflix (subscription required), BBC iPlayer, YouTube and Channel 5.
Sony have their own version of an internet browser built into the television called Sony Opera which allows you to effortlessly surf the internet through your television! You can check your emails, surf Google, check out Facebook & tweet the world all from the convenience of the TV remote control.
Another feature of Sony platform is the benefit of ‘screen-mirroring’ meaning you can beam across the display on your mobile device to your television screen. This feature is excellent for sharing your latest holiday photos with friends and family on the big screen with the inbuilt Triluminous technology bringing to life those vibrant colours.
As well as paying excellent attention to detail and design on the front of the TV, Sony have provided adequate connectivity on the rear, offering two USB ports, two HDMI ports and even a Scart connection. This will be music to the ears of all those that have a VHS player tucked away in the loft and struggle to find a compatible TV in this modern age to display their classic films and home-made footage. With Sony’s X Reality Processor combined with Triliminous technology, these old classics will look better than ever digitally enhanced through this powerful TV!
Via the HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) port, or with the use of the supplied adaptor providing an optical connection via the headphone socket, it is possible to connect a sound bar or sound base (sold separately). If opting for a conventional designed soundbar, the HTMT300 would be an excellent accompaniment to this 43”model or 49” variation providing you with a greater range of sound in treble and bass with its designated subwoofer. Alternatively, if being positioned on a bedroom chest of drawers or a coffee table with limited space for a soundbar, you may find the HTXT2 sound base from Sony preferable as this is a unit with more depth thus enabling you to place the TV on top and keeping a tidy finish as the subwoofer is integrated into the sound base.
In summary, this TV is arguably the best Full HD TV on the market. For those amongst us who have a Netflix premium package or Sky Q and want to be able to view 4K content, you may wish to consider the KD43XE7002BU or even the KD43XE8004BU but otherwise with High Dynamic Range integrated into this 2017 model and benefiting from Sony’s patented X-Reality processor, you’ll struggle to get a smoother and more vivid picture than this Sony offering. This TV is a great all round TV, good for the gamers in the family and for movie buffs and when connected to home Wi-Fi, the possibilities for uses are almost limitless, courtesy of Sony Opera.
