I make no secret of the fact that I’m a huge fan of any appliance or tech that gives me more time to do the things I love, like spending time with my children (or actively NOT doing housework.) No surprise, then, that I was first in line when this review came up!
First off, the design is impressive. The ‘slim’ part of the moniker is down to its size; this is no heavy, clunky beast that will look imposing. Once unpackaged and set up, I was delighted to see that this machine would easily fit under sofas and chairs. This meant it collected hidden dirt, pet hair and dust from underneath furniture in our home, while also covering a greater area.
It’s remarkably intuitive to use, too, and can even be controlled from an app – so you can arrive home to a freshly vacuumed floor, no matter what time you leave work. There are anti-drop sensors to ensure it cleans up to stairs without falling, reversing and change its path when its sensors detect a drop. Anti-collision sensors allow the Deebot to detect objects in its way and easily navigate around them. When Deebot’s battery power gets low, it automatically returns to its charging dock, all by itself, so you needn’t stress about making sure it’s on charge – it has already done that.
The Deebot Slim came to stay with us for two weeks and it really was a huge help, meaning we spent considerably less time during our valuable weekend doing housework. As the Deebot Slim is able to sweep, vacuum and mop all in a single pass, there was demonstrably less to do to getting our home in order.
Using the optional mop helped remove stubborn dirt on our tiled floors and my (allergy-prone) husband said that he felt less ‘snuffly’, which he puts down to the daily Deebot under-sofa cleaning. If the robot is getting a low battery it will automatically return to its charging dock and recharge by itself meaning you will never have to worry about remembering to put it on charge. Although you can use the handy remote control to programme, pause & start the Deebot and even manage the direction of it from a distance, I chose to pre-set the vacuum to clean once per day.
A Deebot robot vacuum cleaner should be at the top of everyone’s Christmas list but one lucky winner needn’t bother Santa, however, as they’ll be getting a wonderful Ecovacs Deebot Slim delivered to their door.
