The two powerful subwoofers offer up resounding bass by working with a passive radiator. The passive radiator works with the subwoofer, artificially creating space in the speaker cabinet by reacting to the movement of air through the speaker. The space created allows more air to flow through the speakers, so even small speakers can deliver great sound and big bass lines.

Set your music free with multiroom listening and SongPal – SongPal is a free mobile app dedicated to Sony’s wireless audio devices. You can browse and play audio content from your audio device using with easy to set-up Bluetooth connection or a Wi-Fi connection. Once setup you’ll have seamless access to all your favourite tracks, whether they’re stored on your PC, phone or accessed via your favourite online music service.
Enhance your music visually, too, with the display of your mobile device. You can also get your music to follow you around the house with multi-room listening from SongPal Link, all controlled by your SongPal app. Put simply, it allows you to group selected Sony soundbars and speakers together. Then, when in ‘Group’mode you play the same music simultaneously through multiple speakers. Conversely, if you use the app in ‘Single’ mode, you can play different music on different speaker. The Archers in the living room and Deftones in the teenagers’ room, lovely.
Send music to your speakers – simply – The Sony ZR7 has Google Cast™ built in, meaning you can simply cast your favourite music apps from your device straight to your speaker. Just tap the “Cast” button in a music app on your device, select a speaker or a group of speakers and get started.
I road tested this speaker for a week and can resolutely say that it’s one of those rare finds that manages not just to live up to the hype but to exceed it. The bass it manages to deliver during my first test (Skrillex’s ‘Cinema’, against my middle-age judgement) had me genuinely impressed. The passive radiator really makes a difference, too – it’s particularly adept at handling low frequencies. This is going to be a great addition to any home!
