It is perhaps unfortunate that when Dyson research, design and create amazing new products, they don’t get to add new words to the dictionary, because the words “air + purifier” quite simply do not do the HP02 air purifier real justice. Because, you see, the Dyson Pure Hot Cool is not an air purifier in the traditional sense, it’s more than that – as I found out during a week-long product review.
As a former inner city dweller and someone who is asthmatic, I am down with the air purifiers and felt suitably qualified to don my ‘judgey’ pants to see if the Dyson warranted the price tag during my review & product testing week.
Straight off, I am particularly pleased that the HP02 is a “Smart” appliance; it monitors the air quality inside & immediately outside your home, records that information and can be accessed & controlled from a (free) app. It’s a key element in creating a smart home. Smart homes are an incredibly important step forward in making our homes work for us. Smart homes are an innovation that I hope will see older people remain in their own homes for longer, retaining independence, safely, for longer.
The HP02 is an air purifier that heats and cools, too and there’s nothing like a week of British spring to test extremes of temperature – both hot and cold! The unit is complete inside the (stout) packaging, so I waste no time and set up the app and the unit in less time than it took my kettle to boil!
The first day of spring in Suffolk was warmer than Ibiza, apparently, so I set the HP02 to cool. It can cool in a direct jet of air or a wider arc to cool a whole room. The app meant that I could easily monitor my indoor air quality and see live, local air quality metrics – straight from my smartphone.
After a warm day, the air temperature of course plummeted so I moved the HP02 to the bedroom, where it remained for my week trial. I slept better – and I am not alone in that thinking. In a recent survey, 88% of people stated that they felt that they sleep better with a Dyson air purifier. Easily put into “night mode”, the HP02 LED display is dimmed and uses only the quietest settings to respond & react to changes in the air quality, capturing allergens, pollutants and auto emissions – and keeps them caught. Unlike many HEPA air purifiers which actually release harmful pollutants as they force air through their filters, causing harmful pollutants to escape back into the room, the Dyson HP02 traps up to 99.95% of harmful pollutants and keeps them trapped in the filter.
Put simply, the HP02 deals with pollen, allergens, bacteria, mould, industrial and auto emissions, odours, domestic fumes, pet dander and other potentially harmful ultra-fine particles. The HP02 can monitor, record and react to the air quality in our home AND be controlled by me from my smartphone – before I get home. I’m sold!
