I’m always excited to review Bose products; I listen to music all day, so knowing that I’ll have Bose quality audio is exciting! Out of the box, it’s clear that the Bose Portable Home Speaker is a super stylish and sleek smart speaker. The setup is simple and I download the free Bose Music app to get step-by-step instructions on how to set up the speaker, although it’s really intuitive. Once setup is complete, I can use the app to easily browse through all my music in one place. Jumping between radio stations, playlists and services is effortless. The free app also lets you group your Bose Portable Home Speaker with any other Bose smart speakers or soundbars for a seamless whole-home audio experience. You can choose to play different songs, stations or playlists in different rooms or play the same track throughout the whole home.
The audio quality it delivers is every bit as good as you’d expect from Bose; it fills the room, producing what I would call spacious sound. There’s a deep, rich bass that uses 360° sound technology to spread the sound evenly in all directions so you feel enveloped by the sound at every angle.
This speaker is battery powered, making it incredibly effortless to take it with you from room to room throughout your home (until you build your collection) – and its IPX4 rating means you can take it with you, wherever you go. Away from the Wi-Fi®, it’s still an outstanding Bluetooth® speaker. Control is simple, thanks to a myriad options: choose to can control it with the Bose Music app, Apple AirPlay 2 or Spotify® Connect, or with the straightforward buttons on the speaker.
I use voice assistants daily, so I was delighted to find that this Bose portable home speaker also works brilliantly with either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. You can ask for specific music, a radio station, your schedule, news and weather – or any of the compatible skills – and the vast mic array will pick up on your voice and do as you ask.
There’s a world of music out there so stream content from popular music services like Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer on your Portable Home Speaker anywhere you’ve got a Wi-Fi connection to play your favourite tracks or discover new artists. Off the Wi-Fi, you can use Bluetooth® to listen to anything your mobile phone or tablet can play. Apple users can also use AirPlay 2 to play audio content from their devices, too.
