Springwatch is BACK at RSPB Minsmere

Springwatch-blog

I love Springwatch so I’m delighted to report that it’s back to R.S.P.B Minsmere this month.  Ironically, as I write this it seems like winter is back; hailstones, freezing rain and the heating on in the middle of May, tsk!  Still, the garden, hedgerows and countryside are teeming with birds and wildlife, so it’s just me being a bit of a wuss!

Diane and the team at our Southwold branch continue to support RSPB Minsmere and have loaned them a fridge for their BBC visitors.  RSPB MInsmere is situated near Dunwich and is an amazing day out for all the family.  A year-round venue, spring at Minsmere brings some amazing sights:-

  • Watch marsh harriers sky-dancing over the reedbed and listen for booming bitterns;
  • Listen to singing warblers and nightingales;
  • Watch sand martins skimming overhead whilst you enjoy a meal outside the tearoom.

Springwatch returns to our screens at 8pm on Monday May 25th until June 11th. Over 12 fantastic episodes, presenters Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Games will explore and examine Minsmere’s wonderful variety of habitats, from sand dunes and woodland  to shingle beaches and reedbeds and now YOU can be involved, too as the RSPB is seeking enthusiastic volunteers with a ready smile and a passion for wildlife, who can help visitors get the most out of their experience at Minsmere, whether it’s acting as a guide on one of the wildlife watching hides, or helping out in the cafe or car park. You don’t need to be a bird or wildlife expert, just keen to learn, as all necessary training will be provided. See www.rspb.org.uk/volunteering, email minsmere@rspb.org.uk, or telephone 01728 648281 to find out more.
