Samsung’s flagship Q9 series is the top flat screen, QLED offering in 2017. Boasting the latest Quantum Dot technology, Samsung is one of only two manufacturers being able to offer Certified Ultra HD Premium picture quality. What this means is that you will see exactly what the movie creators intended when watching any Ultra HD content through this set. Coupled with one of Samsung’s new Ultra HD Blu-Ray players, a multiroom sound bar and 2 wireless multiroom speakers, you can now enjoy movies and TV in your very own home theatre set up and even play hi-resolution music throughout your home. It is all controllable through your wireless devices, by all of the family.
The world’s first ‘100% Colour Volume Display’ in simple terms means that no matter the time of day – whether night or day – the screen will use the light in a smart way and process the picture to give amazing colour and contrast without any loss of picture quality. Think of the screen as a stained glass window in a church – when the light shines through, it only enhances the colours and does not reflect any of the light shining through. The low light reflectivity of the Q9 screen is perfect for all conditions and means that screen glare is kept to a minimum.
Samsung’s Q9 series has the highest brightness levels to date, enabling ultimate picture detail to be highlighted, while simultaneously not losing any shadow detailing; I have found that this brings a whole new level to the depth of what you are watching. When I was comparing the standard Ultra HD series and the QLED series from Samsung as part of the recent 100% Colour Volume challenge when playing the Planet Earth series content in Certified Ultra HD – it was like the documentary and animals were brought to life, almost feeling like they were in the room!
Samsung have really thought about more than just the picture quality with the Q9 series. Samsung’s Q viewing angles suggests that every seat in the house is “the best seat in the house”. Along with amazing picture quality from nearly every angle, Samsung have also focused on the 360 degree design of the set. This compliments Samsung’s new range of designer stands, such as the Studio and Gravity, for customers who wish to position their Samsung TV in a studio setting, for instance. Coupled with the near-invisible optical cable and One Connect box, all of your connected equipment can be stored out of sight, giving a clean and minimalist design to your TV and surrounding living space. Even the wires from the back of the set are smartly hidden through Samsung’s Clean Back design, that merges aesthetically with the back of the set. The Q9 is definitely a statement TV for those who want the very best you can get in the current TV market.
The Q9’s size might suggest it is designed for larger living spaces. However, size doesn’t always matter; because of the QLED technology, size isn’t so much of a factor as the distance between the TV and where the viewer is seated is now not as relevant as it once was. The advances in picture quality combined with the clarity that the Ultra HD content is capable of producing, means that you can be nearer the TV. Maybe now, “bigger is better”.
With a virtually bezel-less design, you may now find that it is possible to own a bigger-sized TV which will fit in the same dimensions as your previous set. It also means that you can jump a couple of sizes, if you were looking at upgrading to a larger set.
If you are looking for a Smart TV then you will be seriously impressed with the range of apps on offer from Samsung, through its own app store. With the YouTube Kids apps, you don’t have to worry about what your children are searching for, with content strictly filtered so that you don’t have to keep an eye on what they are streaming. Samsung also supports all of the main streaming services such as Netflix, Deezer, Amazon Prime among many others, making them the smartest TV’s.
