This Sony 4K TV is one of our most popular – and that’s not just because of the price.
With slimline styling it has a 49” (model also available in 43″) screen and mounts easily on a wall. Because the screen has minimal bezels the picture is nearly edge to edge. It’s a really slim frame, which is less than a centimetre for the top, left and right sides, and only a little wider along the bottom.
Straight out of the equally slim line box we found the desktop stand very easy to attach with the screws provided. It supports the TV on a single metal bar that occupies only the central half of the TV’s width.
Set-up was really easy with the very clear on screen guide and connecting to Wi-Fi was simple, too. To get the best possible connection to the net we hard wired it. This can be easily done with the right accessories even if your router is in a different room, with the addition of a TP-Link Powerline adapter.
There’s plenty of connectivity, with four HDMIs arranged down the side for easy access; all are suitable for playback of 4K sources. Also included are three USBs for playback of video, photo and music multimedia files, as well as the Ethernet and integrated Wi-Fi options for accessing online content via the latest Android TV platform.
It’s a 4K (or UHD TV) which means that it will show four times more detail than a standard HD TV; that’s over 8 million individual pixels and there’s a huge choice of 4K content available today.
It’s future-ready as even more and more 4K content and broadcasts are becoming available, but even now the TV’s X-Reality Pro processor will upscale whatever source you are watching to 4K. Every single pixel is upscaled beautifully by Sony’s most powerful 4K picture processing technology to date. The difference is clear with supremely lifelike detail, whatever you’re watching.
It has the powerful 4K Processor X1 which brings stunning picture quality to whatever you’re watching. Every source is analysed and upscaled to its best 4K resolution, from TV broadcasts, Blu-ray Discs, DVDs and even 4K internet videos. It’s also great for sport and fast-moving sequences with Motionflow XR keeping the action smooth, sharp and detailed.
The X83C Android TV comes complete with Freeview HD, which give you access to over 60 digital channels, up to 10 of which are subscription free and are transmitted in incredibly detailed HD, for a great viewing experience straight out of the box. There are more than 25 radio stations available, too.
With the KD49X8305, you won’t have to make a choice of what you want to watch as you can watch one programme whilst recording another, thanks to the twin tuners.
We found the smart side of the TV really smart. Everything we like doing on our smartphones and tablets we can do on the big screen thanks to the Android TV Smart platform – from apps to movies, it’s all seamless.
Google Play gives you more and more apps so you can discover movies and TV shows and is great for gaming.
This Bravia TV is Google Cast ready so you can easily cast your favourite entertainment from your personal device on to the TV screen. You can cast from Android, iOS or your laptop.
We had great fun with the optional One-Flick Remote and YouTube; forget fiddly text input, all you need to do is talk to it. Simply say what you want to see with voice search and you’ll spend less time browsing and more time watching.
Also featured is screen mirroring to wirelessly share your smartphone screen on the TV Screen. The screen mirroring functionality works with tablets, Xperia smartphones and any other devices compatible with Miracast technology. You can watch videos together with friends and family, browse together, or select your holiday destination on a map. If you have the optional One-Flick Remote, all you have to do is touch your NFC-enabled Xperia smartphone or tablet to it which will pair the devices in an instant for screen mirroring.
YouView makes it easier than ever to find any programmes you may have missed. It lets you scroll back through the programme guide and you can select the shows that are available on catch up TV – all without the trouble of opening a separate app. You simply scroll and select to watch the shows you’ve missed. YouView offers you a consistent and easy-to-use experience, and also includes scroll back, search, catch up TV and discover features. This includes access to all the normal free-to-air channels using the YouView guide and mini guide.
