The Polk MagniFi Max SR is a home theatre sound bar and wireless subwoofer and the perfect solution if you want a full 5.1 surround sound setup without any of the troublesome wires that you used to have to deal with!
The long and sleek design of the sound bar means that it sits perfectly under the Infrared sensor on most TV’s, ensuring it does not interfere with your normal use of the TV. It also comes with a set of wall mounts included if you want to put it up on the wall instead.
On the top of the bar is the essential controls that are laid out with substantial tactile buttons, allowing you to control the power, source selection, Bluetooth, volume up and down, and mute.
On the back is a decent selection of connections, as you get three HDMI inputs, and HDMI ARC output, optical in, 3.5mm aux in, and Ethernet. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are built in as well as Chromecast support, allowing you to send music from other devices straight to the Magnifi Max SR without needing any extra gadgets or cables!
The wireless subwoofer is fairly compact being 37cm high, 37cm in width and 31cm deep meaning it will easily hide behind a TV stand or position it behind your sofa, for the ultimate in home cinema.

The two rear speakers also connect wirelessly and come pre-selected as left and right you don’t have to waste time setting up which speaker is on each side. When connecting up the rear speakers and the subwoofer it is as simple as pushing a pairing button on the back of each of the units and you’re set up!
One really clever touch with MagniFi Max SR, though, is that it’s already been pre-programmed to respond to the remote control commands from most big-name TV manufacturers! This means you can use your main TV remote to turn the bar on and off alongside the TV, as well as adjust the volume.
I was very impressed with the sheer power that such a small bar can offer. The surround speakers offered punchy detail that left me turning my head to react to sounds. The subwoofer as expected is incredible. Should you be fortunate to live out in the sticks or in a detached home you can really feel the house shake with it! Having checked my neighbours were out, I had everything cranked up to the max and as far as I’m concerned I may as well have been sat watching Thor: Ragnarok in the cinema! It is a really impressive unit.
