The Miele WDA211 washing machine just oozes quality right from start; from the subtle yet intelligent design to the very clever technology it incorporates so effortlessly.
Once unpackaged, you can instantly see the design quality and can tell that it’s a robust appliance – good news with the amount of laundry we do on a weekly basis! With no time for procrastination, I set about putting this machine through its paces.
The first wash of the day always a chore: school stuff by the bucket load. There’s trousers, blouses, school shorts, messy PE kits, jumpers and the like. I choose the Automatic Plus programme that cleverly allows you to wash cottons and poly-cottons together, that is a real winner. I quickly get together a 7kg load and that large porthole swallows up nearly a whole basket load of washing and the door shuts with a satisfying clunk. It’s worth noting that Miele washers are tested for the equivalent of twenty years use and I can already see this built-to-last quality shining through. This particular machine also comes with a five year warranty.
With the first load of the day on, I set about researching my new appliance. Miele have developed a honeycomb drum that has a hexagonal sculptured surface which allows your clothes to glide on a thin film of water for a really gentle wash. This help to limit fabric ageing & fading to your clothes while also limiting pilling and bobbling.
Boasting a thumping 1400rpm spin this machine certainly hits the mark, delivering excellent spinning results ensuring dryer clothes as a result. This equates to less drying (on the line or in a matching Miele tumble dryer) which means that the laundry pile is dealt with in less time.
The wash results are fantastic; everything was so clean and fresh and – as above – drying time was reduced, too. With the first load done, my first impressions of this machine are extremely favourable and one has to admire the quality of everything on offer here.
Miele have positioned all the controls so well on this machine; from the wonderfully chunky control dial to the intuitive display panel which tells you when the machine is due to finish. You can even use a delay feature to ensure the machine finishes at a time when someone is home to hang it out or even to use a cheaper electricity tariff.
Other features are a useful a 20 minute express wash (yes, it really was done in 20 minutes); an ideal way to freshen up musty pillow cases or summer beach towels from the bottom of the airing cupboard.
Keeping the electricity costs down has always been one of my aims for my household – both for environmental benefits AND the cost savings – and by using the Miele that box gets a big tick. With an incredible A+++ RATING and fantastic results at just 20c you’re being kinder to the environment, your clothes – and your wallet! The money saving, environmentally-friendliness doesn’t end there, though; this frugal Miele uses just 52 litres of water for a full 60c load and less water means less power and powder.
The large door makes loading and unloading the machine a real doddle and with the controls so well laid out changing programmes and options is so simple. The front fascia of the Miele has been cleverly angled, giving it a more modern appearance than many other washing machines.
The front of the machine has been enamelled (not just painted) making it incredibly tough and resistant to scratches and wear and tear, bangs and nicks – ideal for a busy household.
