The LG 55SK9500 Super 4K TV has been the focus of my review this month and, hand on heart, I can say WOW – what a machine this TV is!
With its vivid super 4K picture quality and HDR10 Pro experience, this TV has certainly impressed me more than I (a notorious cynic) expected it to.
It has a Nano-cell display, ensuring clear pixel quality across the LED screen, delivering excellent vivid 4K resolution with deeper blacks and brighter colours. Some LED panels struggle to produce really dark blacks and brilliant whites, due to the screen being lit from the edge, however this one has a full array backlit display. Put simply, individual banks of LED bulbs illuminate where required on the screen, giving more control over light levels to the TV and supplying you with deeper blacks and brilliant whites, perfect for all the film lovers out there.
The engine behind the TV is an A7 intelligent processor which delivers greater clarity and higher resolution, with Active HDR the TV adapts to a range of HDR formats, delivering pinpoint picture quality. The SK9500 can refresh itself quicker with its 100hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth, crisp and blur-free motion, so fast sports and movies look great.
Viewing angles are not an issue due to the advanced Nano-cell engineering which allows viewing from most angles. The screen itself goes right to the edge so there is virtually no frame or bezel, all you really see is the picture. Look round the side, though, and you will notice a neat metal banding edging the frame, a very smart but understated touch. The TV sits on a crescent-shaped table-top stand, similar to the ones used on the LG OLED range of televisions, it is stable and compliments the whole feeling of quality you get looking at this set.
This is also a smart TV supporting WebOS which can connect to your internet wirelessly. The LG TV has a number of apps built in, including Netflix, Amazon prime, BBC iPlayer, Now TV, YouTube and many more of the catch-up services.
LG’s ThinQ technology can listen, think and respond to your voice via the new “magic” remote control which is very intuitive to use. There’s no more searching the remote for a certain button; just say what you want to happen – like “Turn on Netflix” or “Change volume to 25” and the TV will do it.
Fitted with a Dolby Atmos sound engine this TV looks great and sounds excellent, creating impact and immersive audio with an amazing cinematic feel.
The LG TV has twin tuners which mean you can watch Freesat TV through your satellite dish if you have one.
The UHD TV also has a gallery mode which allows you to turn your TV into a piece of art on the wall. Enjoying stunning images in the comfort of your own home when your TV is off.
Stunning design with minimal bezel makes this TV look and sound the part, and boasting four HDMI ports and three USB ports, this TV has the lot!
