Review: Krups XN300540 Pixie Nespresso Coffee Machine

Guest blog by Gareth.

I would like to welcome the Krups XN300540 Pixie into the coffee world! Despite the name, I have been reliably informed there is no connection to Pixie Lott, so perhaps it takes its name from the Devon and Cornwall pixies – a small and helpful being. If there’s one thing a coffee lover can say about this machine is that it is small and very helpful. Take George Clooney for example; he appears to be a fan and as short as the advert is (30 seconds), it’s actually possible to have a coffee made through this machine in less time than it takes to watch. 25 seconds is the average time taken to make a coffee with this machine; when you’re on the go and need a caffeine pick-me-up, this machine comes into its own.

A very compact design allows a smooth transition into the kitchen, it can fit almost anywhere, no more redesigning to accommodate – you’ll need a different excuse to buy a new kitchen! A handy cord storage means it would even be at home in a cupboard, if you’re short on space.

Now onto the exciting part, the coffee itself… this machine exclusively uses Nespresso pods and that’s why coffee fans love these machines. Long gone are the days of powdered coffee or coffee being white or black, decaffeinated or caffeinated. Nespresso have capsules for every palate including Livanto, Capriccio and Volluto – but fear no more, there is a chart included to help translate into simple terms. You will get a head start too, as it comes with 16 different capsules free so you can experiment and find your flavour. We have done extensive research and drunk plenty of coffee, all in the name of science, customer service and helping you out, you understand. The varieties of coffee, the different flavours, the strengths; there is literally something to suit all tastes. With the capsules so easy to order now, including through the website, application or via supermarket, every morning can start with a kick!

It’s simple to use and maintain, too. To get started, make sure the water tank is full (it holds 0.7 litres, which is plenty for a few coffees), then pop in the capsule, wait 25 seconds and that’s it – enjoy the coffee experience. A 19 bar pressure is one of the highest going for a coffee machine, effectively propelling your coffee from the pod to cup. To match the pressure, it comes equipped with a thermo block system, this heats water that’s being used as it travels, rather than the whole lot, this makes the process super quick.

In summary, when time is money and this coffee machine is such a great price, with a 25 second per cup ratio, it will pay for itself within the week. Don’t hesitate, start everyday with that much needed kick. Or – if you’re unsure – pop down to your local branch today for a cup – it won’t take long!
