When I was first asked to review the iRobot SKU605 robot vacuum cleaner I was, I admit, a little sceptical. Surely we haven’t yet reached a time where robots are better at doing the cleaning than humans?!
I was fortunate enough to take this home for myself and threw down the gauntlet in the “iRobot challenge”. In the “iRobot challenge” you’re prompted to vacuum with your ordinary cleaner first then asked to put your iRobot down and let it have its turn. Never one to resist a challenge, I vacuumed the living room with my usual vacuum cleaner. I set up the iRobot (a remarkably easy task) and headed off to have my shower, leaving the iRobot to its task. When I came back to the room, to my surprise the robot had finished and was neatly sitting on its base. Checking out the carpet in the living room, I could see that it really was better than I’d left it. Surely the robot couldn’t have picked up that much? My inner sceptic had made sure I liberally dusted Shake ‘n’ Vac everywhere first and I couldn’t see a trace of it left on my carpet. I then opened the dust chamber on the iRobot and to my amazement I could see that the small 30 minute clean had already started to fill this, even though I had vacuumed before!
Dirt and grime appears all the time, but keeping it under control just got so much easier with the SKU605 cleaner from iRobot. Simply press the ‘CLEAN’ button on top. How can it get much easier than that? Just one button and away it goes, doing all the hard work with its silent motor at 61dB not disturbing you whilst you relax.
With intelligent built-in sensors the iRobot can find its way around your house without a problem. The iRobot uses clever sensors which will “map” the room, meaning that it will not fall off any drops in your floor and won’t fall down the stairs. Its side brushes make sure it gets into every corner; with its small and sleek design the iRobot is designed to fit underneath furniture and features a patented 3-stage cleaning process with counter-rotating brushes and a powerful vacuum to remove dirt, dust, hair and other debris from your home.
It has easy to remove brushes and filter making the maintenance quick to de-tangle. If the iRobot happens to run out of charge when cleaning it will simply travel back to its docking station to prepare itself for its next job.
Other vacuums within the range even have an app where you can review your iRobot from your phone to see how full it is and how much charge it has. You can even press the ‘CLEAN’ button from your mobile device to send it off to clean whilst you are out for the day – ensuring you return home to beautifully cleaned carpets and floors.
So, if you’re as sceptical as I was why not try it out for yourself; contact your local store to find out where we have the full iRobot family on display. Some local stores even offer a free home trial where you can take home an iRobot SKU605 for a short time to test it out in your own home. You can also buy online or find out about rental today.
