Since the beginning of recorded history the human race has been obsessed with THE CUBE. The beauty of its symmetry has been the subject of wonder by scholars and mystics alike.
So, the 1RB100 Rockbox by Fresh ‘n Rebel doesn’t disappoint in the simple, elegant nature of its appearance, or (in other words) it’s a small cube.
Overall, this product is a good, reliable, budget-priced Bluetooth speaker. What it lacks in power and volume it makes up for in size, weight and battery life.
Connection to the 1RB100 is very simple and getting it up and running is simpler still. Just charge the Rockbox before use, switch it on, enable the Bluetooth on your smartphone or tablet and then select the ‘Rockbox’ from the list of Bluetooth devices and you are connected.
The speaker has an output power of 3 watts which a similar output to some small stereo systems and at half the price of some of those stereo systems it’s little wonder that this speaker is so popular.
Playing ‘The Chain’ by ‘Fleetwood Mac’ through it, the vocals sounded clear enough, (not murky like some speakers can sound), the guitar work sounded bright & clear and most importantly there was a marked difference in the quality and volume when comparing it to the speakers contained in normal smartphones. You can also use it to take calls as it doubles as a speakerphone; as such it really compliments those who find listening to music through smartphones a little lifeless.
Versatility is key with this piece of kit. It would be perfect for taking room to room in the house, in the garden for BBQ’s and camping trips all due to how very light it is (and it is VERY light, approximately 120g) it measures 5x5x5cm.
The battery life is nothing short of miraculous. It is quoted as having 6.5 hours run time but that needs putting in some context because some Bluetooth speakers would quote 12-24 hours run time. Of course, those longer run times are down to much bigger batteries, therefore the speakers are extremely heavy. That the Rockbox can play for 6.5 hours from what I can assume is a small battery is quite a feat. The quoted charge time is a swift and fleeting 30 minutes.
The Rockbox comes in a decent protective box with accessories neatly stashed inside, these are a standard micro USB charging cable; a 3.5mm audio cable (for non-Bluetooth enabled devices) and a small instruction book. The connections on the back comprise of a 3.5mm jack input and the micro USB socket. The speaker is also made with a high quality rubber coating on it which aids your ability to grip it without making it look too industrial.
The 1RB100 is available in great colours; choose from black, indigo Blue, peppermint green or wildberry pink. It adheres to the Bluetooth 3 standard and is compatible with Windows, Android and Apple devices.
The Rockbox: small but beautifully formed and for the meagre price you cannot help but smile. Don’t be square; get your hands on the Fresh ‘n Rebel Rockbox by ordering online or finding available stock in a local store today.
