With my Dyson DC40i’s help the panic was over…
A bit of background for you as I review the Dyson DC40i: I like to think of myself as a hardworking man but I am a family-first kind of chap so, when my brother needed somewhere to live for a while I let him come to live with me. Big mistake: he’s a builder and is about as tidy as a cave troll. Whilst it’s been great having him around he has caused me more than his fair share of tidying and cleaning, so when the option to rent a Dyson vacuum cleaner came about I decided to jump at the chance to make my life that little bit easier and opted for the Dyson DC40i.
At just £15 per month it was considerably cheaper than paying for a cleaner to come and do it for me and it meant I had the peace of mind of the Hughes rental service.
So let me set the scene for you. I’d just got home from work and as it happens with two men in a house, it could do with a clean. I think “No problem, I’ll do it tomorrow” as I was off. Then I get a text and the panic sets in: my new girlfriend will be over in an hour! I look around in a panic; there’s brick dust trodden into the rugs, the sofas need a quick going over and the stairs have seen better times. As the panic turns into dread I remember I have my secret weapon: my Dyson.
I plug in the 7.5 metre mains lead to the nearest socket and begin my time-sensitive mission. Beginning with the rugs, the Dyson makes short work of those, making them look clean and almost new, with no trace of any brick dust.
Now for the hardwood floor that runs throughout the house. A quick switch of the brush control button next to the power button and the cleaner brush stops, allowing me to vacuum the floor without marking it. The Dyson ball technology allows it to turn on the spot, making it easy to manoeuvre around my furniture. With Dyson’s patented cyclone technology providing unparalleled suction and picking up more dirt and capturing even the smallest of particles, in no time the downstairs was looking very dapper. A quick once over on the sofas with the upholstery tool and downstairs was looking pretty good and I still had 50 minutes to go!
Time to tackle the stairs and upstairs… with the hose reaching a good few metres, in no time at all the stairs are clean.
I nip downstairs, unplug the Dyson and using the useful handle on top on of the dust cylinder I take it upstairs. For such a powerful vacuum it’s surprisingly lightweight, at around 7kg.
Plugging in upstairs and switching the brush control back on, within five minutes the carpets are looking good again. I unplug and wrap the cord around the handy hooks on the back of the vacuum and pop it back under the stairs. Looking at my watch I realise I’ve just vacuumed the whole house in under 25 minutes, giving me enough time to get ready myself and relax on the (nice clean) sofa.
From man cave to clean and tidy in under half an hour – I wonder if it works on brothers, too!
