Ticking the boxes… When looking for a new washing machine we often make a list of what we want. This list is usually promptly forgotten amongst the “Ooh’s” and “Ahh’s” when we see the flashing lights of the latest design with new terminology. A washing machine represents a fairly major purchase so it’s important to keep some points firmly in your mind. The most important points that you need to check are performance, programs & functions, capacity, drum size and spin speed.
Our reviewer, Sean, has been using the Bosch WAT24420GB and found that it ticks all the boxes. Here’s what he had to say:- Forget all of the above ‘important points’, all you need to know about this machine is that the frankly brilliant team at Bosch have created ‘RELOAD’. Have you ever forgotten to put an item of clothing in the machine? Pressed the start button & heard the water rushing in only to spot a sock escapee? It’s now a thing of the past, thanks to the brilliant Reload feature; you can pause the wash, unlock the Reload door, pop the right clothing in and carry on with the cycle. It’s a design that is so obvious – and SO brilliant! I’m obviously struck by the RELOAD feature but it’s time to get on with the specifications.
Performance – The Bosch’s Energy Efficiency Class is A+++; this means that it’s cheap to run. For those of us who want full facts, the energy consumption is 135 kWh per year, based on 220 standard washing cycles, 30% more economical than the standard value (196 kWh/year). Cottons 60 Eco and Cottons 40 Eco are the standard washing program to which the information in the label relates. These programs are suitable to clean “normally soiled” cotton laundry and are the most efficient program in terms of combined energy and water consumption. Program times make it easy for you to plan ahead. The 60 °C cotton program takes 224 min at full load, 224 min at partial load and the 40 °C cotton program is 224 min for a partial load. With a capacity of 8 kg and a maximum spin speed of 1200 rpm, this machine will make light work of family-sized washes. The noise level when washing is 51dB and when spinning is 74dB so no need to worry about waking the house if you put an overnight wash on.
Programs & functions include… Touch control buttons; Reduced Ironing option, Start delay, Temperature selection, Start/Reload, SpeedPerfect, EcoPerfect, AquaPlus, Spin speed reduction. Special programs; Drum clean, Shirts, Sportswear, Mixed Load, Allergy +, Super Quick 15/30, Duvet, Night Wash, Wool, Delicates/silk. A safeguard monitoring system adjusts load distribution and program settings to protect clothes.
Key features are… Fully electronic control dial for wash programs, temperature and special programs. EcoBar for information about energy consumption. VarioPerfect for speed and energy efficiency with perfect wash performance every time. ActiveWater for ideal water management. EcoSilence for a quiet drive with 10 year warranty. AntiVibration for more stability and smoothness.
This machine doesn’t just look good; it keeps it simple with an easy access panel to remove the filter, along with a removable soap drawer for easy cleaning. Even the serial number is on an accessible label on the door itself!
So let’s make a list of what we need from our new purchase… First and foremost, drum size – it’s a good idea to pick a drum size you can’t easily fill and with up to 8kg this machine will handle most jobs, considering on average 4 men’s shirts equal 1kg. Secondly spin speed, the Bosch WAT24420GB features a 1200 spin cycle which is adequate for normal washes and not harmful to certain materials. Thirdly wash programs, this model has a range of 16 programs including two quick washes 30mins and 15 mins. This model also boasts a Vario Perfect program will allow you to speed up your wash by 65% and will cut down the energy consumption by 50% which will keep your energy bills low. Fourthly, Hughes Price Promise, this will ensure the best price and with their extensive payment options as well as rental there is no reason why you can’t have the machine you deserve. Finally, the measurements – will it fit? With height 848mm, width 598mm and depth of 550mm, this machine should slot in nicely where the old one was.
Did you know we also offer an installation service? If you don’t know what a transit bolt is then I advise you have the Hughes installation team do this as they can remove and disconnect your old one, check the machine is fully operational and also run you through its features.
