The SMS50C02GB features a load sensor. The load weight is detected by a rotary speed sensor which recognizes the water level. Unsurprisingly, for bigger loads, more water is needed to soak the dishes and the water level decreases; in that case more water is added. For smaller loads, less water is needed for rinsing; the load sensor provides for optimal water usage even for half loads or partial loads, saving water and electricity. It also has an EcoSilence Drive; a motor that increases the cleaning efficiency while being exceptionally quiet, efficient and guarantees low electricity consumption. The EcoSilence Drive works without brushes and is ultra-silent and top results are automatically guaranteed.
If you want to load the dishwasher but don’t want it to start right away, there is an option for a delay timer allowing you to start your cycle in either 3 hours, 6 hours or 9 hours. This is a handy option for anyone who gets cheaper electricity at different times of the day. Simply load up, put your detergent in and set the cycle. Select the delay required and hit start and the programme will start after the selected delay period has elapsed.
There are four wash programmes: intensive 70, normal 65, eco 50 and quick 45. If you have burned-on or dried on food remnants containing starch or protein on pots, pans cutlery or non-sensitive utensils, I recommend you to use the intensive 70 or the normal 65 wash. For just part dried-on common household food remnants on cutlery or mixed utensils then the normal 65 is the programme for you. For a more cost effective wash, use the eco 50. For all of your sensitive utensils, temperature-sensitive plastic, glasses and cutlery with slightly adhesives or fresh food remnants then use the quick 45. The intensive 70, normal 65 and eco 50 programmes all benefit from the VarioSpeed option, too.
The VarioSpeed option reduces the running time by approximately 20% to 50% depending on the selected rinse programme. To obtain optimum cleaning and drying performance at the reduced time, water and energy consumption is increased. You will also find a pre-rinse option; this is for all types of utensils and features a cold water rinse. You could use this cycle if you are not ready to wash but want to prevent food from sticking or staining utensils, pot/pans, cutlery, glasses etc.
Next to the programme dial there is a washing indicator light and a drying indicator light. This will give a rough idea of how far into the cycle the programme is. If you were about to pop out, this is rather handy as if the drying indicator light is on, you may be able to hang around for a little longer and empty before you go out.
In the top rack, there are two folding shelves on the right hand side. These, and the space beneath, can be used for small cups and glasses or for larger cutlery items, such as wooden spoons or serving cutlery. It also provides support for wine glasses. If it is not needed, it can easily fold up. The bottom basket features folding spikes which can be folded down to improve the arrangement of bowls or pans. The cutlery basket is easy to remove with a handle for ease of carrying.
Good news – this is as simple to maintain as it is to use. There is a salt refill indicator on the front of the machine; to add salt to the dishwasher, just unscrew the cap inside. The cap is conveniently located towards the front of the machine for easy access. There’s also a filter which is also located near the front of the dishwasher for access. You will also find a rinse aid refill indicator too, in the normal position on the inside of the door, next to the detergent dispenser.
If you accidentally set the wrong programme, this can be easily rectified. Just press and hold the start button for 3 seconds to reset the programme and start again.
