This compact BGL4310GB mid-range cylinder vacuum cleaner from Bosch offers a lightweight solution to all your household needs, all neatly packaged in a traditional cardboard box.
Unpacking and assembly is very straightforward; the main body, hose, tubes and head are easily removed from the packaging, the hose clips into the main body with a reassuring click, the telescopic tubes and handle are then attached to the other end and finally the floor head nozzle attaches. The 10m operating range is made up of 7.5m mains lead and 2.5m of hose and tubes; plenty enough range to tackle all your cleaning needs.
Once the vacuum cleaner was set up, I was surprised at how quiet it was when compared to others of similar specification. The variable suction level – by means of a rotary control on the top of the vacuum – also the same control for switching on and off, it responded positively to foot control, saving having to bend down.
The telescopic extension tubes offer a useful adjustment range, catering for the little and large amongst us! The floor nozzle has a foot operated selector, allowing you to select the correct setting for both carpets and hard floor; the floor nozzle has a plastic sole plate with brushes along the edge, (retractable with the previously mentioned foot selector). This machine is powerful so selection of the correct suction stops the carpet tiles from being lifted. The supplied accessories, including crevice and upholstery nozzle, are easily removed from the supplied accessory clip near the handle and push on to the end of the handle or tube; removal after use was made easier by a twisting action.
The dust bag has a healthy 4L capacity allowing more vacuuming between changes. The dust bags are easily removed from the vacuum and the dust bag full indicator is visible on the top of the vacuum so you’ll know when it’s time to change the bag. The main body top hinges open and these slide into place via the plastic guides with ease. Both the filters in the main body are easily removed and are washable to save cost.
Weighing only 4.5kg it is very easily carried upstairs and the four swivel wheels have 360 degree rotation and appeared to be of a softer type plastic – kinder on varying types of floor covering. The vacuum followed easily around the room when in use and the integrated grab handle made it easy to carry to other rooms.
The mains cord has an automatic rewind into the body of the vacuum, and storage is made easier by a parking clip to attach the extension tube/floor nozzle. Compact yet powerful, the small footprint will be an added bonus to those who are short on space.
The vacuum has an energy class efficiency of class A, motor power 700w, the cleaning performance is quoted as class C on hard floors and carpets.
My overall impression is that this offers excellent value for money, is easy to use, very lightweight and simple to manoeuvre, with a useful variation in suction power enabling most surfaces and upholstery and even curtains to be cleaned.
