Hughes is delighted to be involved with the fantastic local charity Nelson’s Journey and we are proud to be supporting their Twenty20 scheme this year. The aim of the Twenty20 scheme is for 20 local businesses to each raise £1000 so they can to help fund Child Bereavement support workers whose work is invaluable to so many children in making sure they do not have to make the journey of losing a loved one on their own.
A local charity, Nelson’s Journey supports children and young people aged 0 – 17 years inclusive, living in Norfolk, who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life.
In 2017, 952 children and young people were referred to Nelson’s Journey for bereavement support, with an increase of 21% for children referred to them following a loved one choosing to end their own life. In 2018 the charity expects to support over 1300 young children.
It is impossible to imagine the impact had on a young child who has lost a parent, and many understandably struggle to cope with such a loss. Nelson’s Journey offers support to these vulnerable children and helps them to understand their loss and how to cope with their feelings. They use many different techniques and activities to help children understand and more importantly how to understand their emotions.
The support that Nelson’s Journey offers is invaluable to the lives of so many and Hughes are proud to be supporting a charity at the heart of our very own community. Founded in Lowestoft almost 100 years ago Hughes has stayed close to its local roots and we were delighted to be offered the chance to support Nelson’s Journey and to help them continue with their efforts to “Bring back smiles to bereaved children”.
Between 9thand 15thJuly 2018 Nelson’s Journey and their supporters will be holding various “Purple Picnics” and Hughes will be supporting this event too. 12 of our local stores will be holding various fundraisers during this week to help raise some extra money for this amazing charity. Some will be selling cakes and coffee, some will be running prize draws and some will be undertaking physical challenges.
Hughes branches at Lowestoft, Beccles, Halesworth, Southwold, Norwich (Hall Road, Mason Road and White Lion Street), Cromer, Bury St Edmunds, Wymondham and Gorleston are all taking part.
