…is possibly my MOST tenuous pun to date. Today’s post isn’t about that magician chap (actual name Steven Frayne, terribly tall – but then everyone is to me) but about cycling. Women’s Elite Cycling, to be exact.
We’re in the very lucky position, geographically speaking, to have shops the length and breadth of East Anglia and will be looking forward to seeing lots of visitors in our towns and cities, viewing the races.
Stage 3 begins in Felixstowe and the race will end in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 11th May, with towns & villages on the route busy putting the final touches to the preparations to host the racers on the tour not to mention the thousands coming to watch.
The very best of women’s cycling will be taking part, including World and Olympic champion Marianne Vos, world number one Emma Johansson, current UCI world cup leader Lizzie Armitstead, and British Olympic stars Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and Dani King (remember their amazing gold medal win in the team pursuit at London 2012? Still exhilarating to watch, even knowing the outcome!)
The Felixstowe stage of the five-day race goes through Suffolk’s glorious (I’m not biased at all) coastal countryside to Ipswich, then down to Essex, finishing in Clacton on 9th May where there will be a fantastic outdoor music event in the town square.
Before it reaches Bury the final stage will go through some beautiful towns and villages including Brantham, East Bergholt, Raydon, Hadleigh, Boxford, Gt Cornard, Sudbury, Long Melford, Lavenham, Great Finborough, and Rattlesden.
More than 4,000 people are expected to watch the riders cross the finishing line at Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday and there’ll be a a 20m x 20m media screen so that spectators can catch the final moments of the race towards the finish line, which is expected to be around 12.50pm.
