When Gene-Paul Dutton and friend, Tom Skerritt, both of Norfolk, decided to raise funds for two charities they somehow agreed that they would cycle from London to Paris. There was, however, one small catch: neither of them owned a bike!
After planning a route, the pair set about training from scratch and purchased a new bike each. When asked why they’d decided to embark up-on such a huge challenge, Gene-Paul explained that both their families had been affected by cancer and they wanted to raise money and set themselves a challenge.
After buying a bike the pair set about training, initially starting at 9 miles and working their way up, until they were ready to face the 214 mile ride to France! Setting off from Trafalgar Square, the duo cycled up to 130 miles day and reached their destination one day ahead of schedule; fatigued but elated that they’d beaten their target time.
On their return, the pair held a further fundraising evening at The Ancient Mariner, Old Hunstanton. The team at our King’s Lynn store were delighted to donate a £750 smart TV for the raffle. So far, the two fundraisers have raised more than £1500 for two charities, Cancer Research UK and Tapping House hospice. We wish Gene-Paul and Tom well in their continued fundraising efforts and are pleased to be able to help them raise funds for these two amazing causes.
