We’re really excited to be stockists of Samsung’s amazing new TV: The Frame. A TV designed for your space, Samsung’s The Frame will redefine the role of the television in homes and workspaces.
Our homes reflect our personal tastes and interests, while also being functional, catering to the lives of the people who live there. Each piece of furniture, each picture displayed and everything we see when we walk into a room is part of the aesthetic and style of the people who live there. The TV is no exception. A TV is often quite a dominant visual presence in a room, even if it’s not wall-mounted, front and centre. In smaller rooms, you may find that your eye is drawn to the black square of a television when it is off. Conversely, bigger rooms usually feature larger TVs that, by their size alone, get your attention. This is where The Frame will excel – you’ll love this TV when it’s off, as much as you’ll love the picture when it’s on. Of course, as we would expect from Samsung, it’s a fantastic television, with all the attributes, features and functions that we really hoped would be there. Where The Frame comes into its own is in what you perhaps don’t expect from a TV: it will morph into a customisable ‘work of art’ when it is in power-saving mode.
Samsung have clearly looked beyond seeing a TV as only a consumer electronics product, instead seeing of it as part of our home and of our daily life. “Rather than designing a product that only comes to life when watching entertainment, we began to think about a display that offers new inspiration in our lives,” said the industrial designer, Yves Béhar. “What if the TV display in my home delivered a different experience? What if the TV disappeared in the décor when it’s not in use?” With this thinking, Samsung has created a wonderful TV when it’s in use or a work of art when it’s not. For the exterior design, framers from some of the world’s most prestigious museums were consulted. The television’s frame is available in walnut, beige wood and white; once wall-mounted and framed it blends into the home decor.
When The Frame is turned off, the display enters Art Mode rather than going black. In this setting, you can explore art by artist, genre and select a series of pieces to be displayed, display your own artwork or even create a display of family photos. For the Art Mode function, Samsung worked with world-renown curator Elise Van Middelem to find stunning works of art exclusive to The Frame. There are more than 100 pieces of art, covering 10 diverse genres, all scanned at 4000K resolution and shown in Ultra High Definition (UHD). Each artwork is individually scanned and converted into a digital format, and is shown with the different mounting options. In addition, Samsung’s brightness sensor makes incredible adjustments to the image, based on the room lighting, so that the artworks appear physical as opposed to digital. The end result is art on your walls that looks exactly as a printed photograph or a painted canvas would look. The Frame is the first display that is using its sensors to adapt to its changing environment with automated brightness. Don’t worry about your artwork using endless power, either as the television switches off when it detects that nobody is present.
Samsung’s The Frame allows a TV to become a window into a world of art. It can display a gallery of your fondest memories, a connection to the things that matter most to you or a beautiful artwork. Sit back and imagine a beautiful TV that allows you to display up to 100 pieces of stunning art or your own cherished photos.
The Frame is not just a television, but a new experience of displays in the home.
