The team at our Cromer Hughes Plus store took part in the inaugural Cromer Carnival Soapbox Race. From humble origins of a couple of pallets, rose a magnificent* machine, the likes of which would make Henry Ford look on in awe**, were he still with us. The streets were lined with admiring onlookers when our intrepid driver, Lisa, swallowed her fear, donned her safety equipment and climbed aboard the Hughes Hot Wheels.
The course has been described as “sloping gently downhill” and that’s certainly true, but a gentle downhill slope is pretty nerve-wracking when you’re inches from the ground in what was formerly a pallet! Still, Lisa was fearless and careered and slalomed the course admirably. There were some brilliant soapbox cars on display, with everything from surfboards to old bikes and a few pram wheels in evidence. Although we didn’t win, the event was a huge success and the team are already planning something bigger and better next year!
See pictures from the event and see Lisa’s victorious “I made it” salute – as shown above – here and find out where the team started their soapbox journey here.
