Whilst scanning through my local Fenland Citizen newspaper in January, I came across a plea for help from Caroline Rae a teaching assistant who works at Meadowgate School, for donations for a forthcoming Charity Auction to raise funds for the school. They needed to know by the end of February what prizes they have received to plan for a summer event. The school caters for disabled and special needs children from as young as 3 up to 19 years old. The money which they raise throughout the year can subsidise school trips and days out for the children, so is a truly worthy cause. Of course I immediately wanted to find out if we can help.
The next morning I got in touch with my superiors to see if we could help in any way and after discussing the good work and the importance of the school for the local community I was able to get my hands on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablet worth £149 for donation.
I then contacted Caroline to say that we can donate a tablet for their auction. She thanked us profusely for the generous offer and was keen to share the help from others and celebrities who have donated. There are numerous signed autographs from the likes of Ant & Dec, Rowan Atkinson, Lorraine Kelly and even CBeebies Justin Fletcher also known as Mr Tumble (years of watching him would pay off eventually). There are also signed goodies from Former World Boxing Champion Ricky Hatton, TV chef Nigella Lawson, Ricky Gervais, Eastenders cast, Manchester United signed Pennant and Welsh international Rugby Referee Nigel Owens. There have been a number of prizes donated from Beauty Vouchers, Restaurant Meals, Tickets for Hammerton Zoo and Tickets for Dinosaur Park and much much more.
I then arranged a visit to the school to meet Caroline in person and present the tablet. I have a connection with the school previously as my brother made and installed the “Meadowgate” school sign.
Caroline has worked at the school for 3 years and describes it as her “dream job, I love this school and the amazing children here, so it is wonderful to see so how many people support it” Caroline wanted to know by the end of February of prizes donated to plan for the auction and a date has finally been set for the Friday 9th June. So make a date in your diary, get your wallets ready and get to the school at 6.15pm ready for a 7pm start for the auction. For any more information contact the school on 01945 461836.
We wish the school every success on the night and hope they raise lots of money!
