Our Hughes branch in Diss recently donated a coffee machine to a local lady; Margaret Unwin, who decided to celebrate her birthday in a less conventional way this year. Ms Unwin turned 70 and had a birthday party to celebrate this on Saturday 27th September at the Grasmere Club in Diss. Instead of unwrapping her presents from friends and family she decided that a far better way to use such gifts would be to hold a raffle and lucky squares game to win her birthday presents and various products donated from local businesses and put all money raised to Magpas – The Emergency Medical Charity.
Ms Unwin said the night was fantastic and she never dreamt she would get such support from local businesses and friends alike, and was over the moon to have raised £600 for Magpas.
Magpas relies solely on charity donations to be able to continue to offer their lifesaving services alongside volunteer doctors and paramedics, they receive no funding from the Government or National Lottery, yet still managed to attend to over 60,000 patients since they were founded in 1971. They provide this service using helicopter response and land vehicles and carry lifesaving drugs which ultimately is how they have managed to be able to support the NHS and help save many lives over the past years.

Hughes Diss are proud to have donated to such a worthy local cause and to the incredible generosity of Margaret Unwin – Happy Birthday to you!
