I’ve been fortunate enough to have spent some time reviewing the Miele WDA101 washing machine. When you think about great build quality, great reputation and overall great performance, Miele is a name that springs instantly to mind, and the WDA101 does not disappoint.
With the WDA101 you are getting a 7kg honeycomb drum which boasts a 1400rpm spin speed. Not only that, it also boasts an A+++ energy rating minus a further 40% so when you wash you will be saving money as well.
The Miele WDA101 has a honeycomb design drum which creates a thin film of water between the drum and the laundry. This results in laundry gliding gently, protecting the fibres perfectly. The smaller, smoothly polished shouldered holes in the walls of the drum are also gentle on your textiles and prevent piling and laddering. This also means that small objects such (5p’s and paper clips a ‘favourite’ in this house) no longer end up in the drain pump. All these features work in harmony to ensure your clothes – especially delicates – are being taken care of in every wash.
After every wash programme in the WDA 101, the AutoClean detergent dispenser drawer is rinsed through with several powerful jets of water. This removes any detergent residue thoroughly. The particularly smooth surface finish assists the rinsing process making sure that your clothes not only have the best wash possible but are also being taken care of when being rinsed through.
With any Miele appliance you will always notice just how good the build quality is, and that’s certainly true of the WDA101. Good looks don’t mean it’s fragile though; it has an enamel front on the machine meaning that it is scratch, acid and corrosion resistant so your machine should always be looking good.
It’s not just the outside that Miele prides themselves on, either: Miele carries out intensive endurance tests on the inside of the machine, too! During development stage testing, appliances have to wash for 10,000 hours. This involves running approximately 5000 wash programmes. In terms of daily laundry this equates to about 5 programmes per week with an average run time of 2 hours for 20 years. Closer inspection of the picture of the hinge (below) shows they don’t use plastic or thin metal for their hinges; if they pay that much attention to ensuring strong hinges you know their machines are high calibre.
To add to the quality and safety the WDA101 also has what’s called a water control system. The Water Control System (WCS) monitors the water intake with a water level sensor. Water intake is stopped automatically if the normal water level is not reached. If there is water leakage inside the machine, the inlet valve inside the machine closes and water in the suds container is pumped away. A float switch in the drip tray also detects leaking water.
With the WDA101 it has a few specialised programs to aid and assist every kind of user. With the wool program you can load in woollen products without fear of shrinking or felting as they will be washed very gently. On their shirts program it spins the drum in a certain way to prevent creasing; reducing creases makes ironing a lot simpler to do and significantly reduces the time that you will need to iron.
Finally the WDA101 also has an express 20 wash. What this means is that if you need not a full wash but a quick freshen up wash this will do that in only 20 minutes even getting rid of lightly soiled stains. This wash is more designed for lower quantity washes so your clothes are quickly ready to use again.
The WDA101 is an amazing washing machine but why not work it alongside the Miele TDA150 Condenser tumble dryer for faster, better washing and drying.
